Another full-length trailer for The Amazing Spider-man has swung its way online and I have to say – at the risk of jinxing it and getting my expectations up too high – I’m very excited. Very.
Here’s the trailer:
Love how there seems to be a mystery element to the story (what happened to Peter’s parents, how his father was involved with Connors…), love how there appears to be more practical effects thrown in (Garfield and / or a stuntman flipping about as opposed to the increasingly CG-orientated nature of the previous trilogy) and love all of the casting. From top to bottom.
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are utterly perfect, whilst the addition of Dennis Leary as a cop nemesis for Spidey is a great idea as it brings a different dimension to the usual hero vs. baddie dynamic (as well as said cop also being the father of said hero’s girlfriend). As always, I’m worried about a big over-the-top finale and the Lizard could go either way (let’s hope he’s kept brutal and shadowy), but so far this looks very promising.
Importantly, I liked Raimi’s take a lot and was a big fan of Tobey Maguire in the role (Spider-man 2 is one of the best comic adaptations out there for me) , but at the risk of casting them aside too quickly, Mark Webb’s take looks like it will be grittier, darker and – not that Raimi’s was ridiculous – more grounded. I didn’t get all the huge online excitement about The Avengers trailer yesterday, but this is exactly the sort of superhero movie I respond to. Put quite simply, my Spider-senses are tingling.
