The first trailer for The Bourne Legacy has debuted online and, whilst it’s decent, has done little to make me more excited. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the The Bourne Identity, but felt the second and third instalments were much less involving given how they were less character focused. Maybe it was a Paul Greengrass thing (as he didn’t direct the first), but this attempt to keep the franchise going seems to me like exactly that – an attempt to keep the franchise going. For me, the story has been told, it ended perfectly (With Matt Damon echoing the “look at what they make you give” sentiments a fellow assassin said to him earlier before falling into water again) and any more just feels like an excuse for spy action – whether the story demands another chapter or not.

That said, with Tony Gilroy in the director’s chair, things could be looking up. Gilroy wrote all three Bourne movies, recent thriller State Of Play and rather excellent Michael Clayton (which he also directed). Plus, Jeremy Renner is a good choice for our new lead, and the inclusion of Ed Norton is always a major plus. Anyway, here’s the trailer:
