The first full-length trailer for the third season of The Walking Dead arrived at Comic-Con the other day – a four-minute bad-boy no less – and it looks pretty promising. In all honesty, I’ve never really responded to the show as much as I want to, as it’s never quite lived up to the compelling pilot episode. Certainly there have been excellent episodes (both season finales have been stand-outs), but even as someone who prefers talky character-based shows (which it is), it often feels much less interesting when the zombies (sorry, walkers) are off screen. Which, in season two, was often.

That said, there are some intriguing new characters (most notably, David Morrissey as The Governor) and an overdue change of location – although the maximum security prison and idyllic, cut-off town behind might just prove to be like season two’s farm. Still, the return of a certain character is definitely most welcome. Regardless, season three will be the first full one without former showrunner Frank Darabont, so it will be interesting to see what direction it takes…
