Apple have released the first trailer for Sherlock Holmes sequel A Game Of Shadows and you can feast your eyes on it below:

Yeah, pretty much more of the same isn’t it? Like the original, this promises to offer a breezy and stylish mixture of big, actiony set-pieces while not taking itself too seriously. If at all.

Of course, director Guy Ritchie returns (prepare for slow motion shots!), as do stars Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. So, in short, if you liked the first, chances are you’ll be getting more of the same.

Plot-wise, we don’t know much, aside from Holmes mentioning that he’s on “the single most important case” of his career and the fact that it draws elements from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s short story The Final Problem. Which, as fans well know, introduces his greatest nemesis, one Professor James Moriarty…

And, the brief hint of Jared Harris as Moriarty (bravo casting department, bravo) is easily the most exciting prospect of A Game Of Shadows. Well, that and the married couple back-and-forth between Downey Jr’s Holmes and Law’s Watson, which was easily the highlight of Sherlock Holmes.

Personally, as far as the world’s greatest sleuth goes, I far preferred the take offered by BBC’s recent mini-series Sherlock (if you haven’t seen it, seek it out), but there’s definitely fun to be had here.

Sherlock Homes: A Game Of Shadows is out on December 16th.
