We weren’t really sure until now, but this confirms that Zack Snyder is definitely, 100% and unequivocally shooting his Superman movie, The Man Of Steel. Here, for the first time, is a genuine shot of Henry Cavill in the costume, looking nothing short of, well, super.

The look on his face, the costume, the crumpled bank vault, the jawline (particularly the jawline)… all spot-on. Okay, so the hair is more Dean Cain slicked than Reeves’ kiss-curl, but this looks like Superman. This looks iconic.

So far, many of us (including this writer) have had real doubts. While Snyder is an ultra-likeable guy with some incredibly beautiful pictures behind him that prove he can handle page-to-screen adaptations (300, Watchmen), he’s also known for style over substance. But yet, having Chris Nolan onboard overseeing everything is a reassuring stroke of genius, while the decision to take influence from Mark Waid’s seminal graphic novel Birthright is perfect.

Now, while many also don’t agree with Brandon Routh being replaced, it’s surely understandable given that Snyder and Nolan are, effectively, starting again. Singer’s Superman Returns offered us perfect closure for Richard Donner’s ‘70s version, but this is taking us in a whole new direction.

The movie will see Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Pa Kent, Diane Lane as Ma Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Julia Ormond as Lara, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and the likes of Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni and Antie Traue also star.

The Man Of Steel will be released in 2013.
