Given the huge (and, more importantly, well-deserved) success of the BBC’s Sherlock, an American version was always only a matter of time away. Here, we get our first glimpse of it, and it looks exactly like what you might be expecting.

To be honest, I really like the casting of Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and he looks decent enough, but the selection of Lucy Liu as Dr Joan Watson strikes me as against-type role-reversal casting for the sake of it. Isn’t the bromance angle one of the key ingredients at the heart of the Holmes mythos? And, given Liu’s penchant for domineering characters, will a dominant Watson not change the dynamic for the worse?

So, quite simple, at this stage I can’t see how it can possibly compete with the Beeb’s version, or for that matter Guy Ritchie’s big-screen series. Time will tell though…
