Now, before anyone gets excited, this is purely just a piece of wishful thinking at this stage. Actually, make that very wishful thinking.

While doing the rounds recently to promote his highly-anticipated Captain America (check out Flix Capacitor’s preview thoughts from a few months back), director Joe Johnston let slip that he’d love to make a Star Wars film based solely on fan-favourite Boba Fett. That noise you just heard was fanboy heads everywhere exploding with excitement.

Giving this idea true weight, Johnston actually began as a storyboard artist for George Lucas and contributed to the Fett’s original design.

“I’m trying to get George to make a feature based on Boba Fett.” he went on to admit. “I would like to direct it; it’d be a lot of fun.”

Would this work? The Bounty Hunter has a huge and vocal fanbase, but this was mainly built on his brief – but very cool – appearences in the originals. Indeed, his screen-time in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi amounts to ten minutes tops.

In Attack of the Clones, we see a younger version, his father and some back-story Daddy issues, but even the biggest prequel fan would struggle to argue that he remained as iconic. For Boba, it seems that less is more.

Regardless, expect to hear more on this one…
